ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board)
The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is an organization that develops global standards for sustainability reporting. Its goal is to provide companies with clear, comparable, and consistent guidelines for disclosing sustainability data, enabling investors and other stakeholders to make informed decisions.
The ISSB was established in 2021 by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation to meet the growing demand for standardized sustainability reporting. Its mission is to create a comprehensive and unified framework focused on key Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics. The ISSB standards are designed to be globally applicable, complementing and harmonizing with various regulatory requirements, such as the EU's CSRD.
A key aspect of the ISSB's work is the integration and further development of existing initiatives, including:
- Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB): Industry-specific reporting guidelines.
- Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD): Recommendations for climate-related financial disclosures.
- Global Reporting Initiative (GRI): A broad focus on economic, social, and environmental issues.
The ISSB emphasizes connecting financial and non-financial data, enabling companies and investors to make informed decisions. Its standards allow companies to align their sustainability performance with financial KPIs, strategically orienting themselves toward long-term goals.
For medium-sized manufacturing companies facing increasing regulatory requirements such as the CSRD, ISSB standards are a critical tool. They facilitate the creation of sustainability reports that meet both investor expectations and legislative demands.
Tanso provides a platform to help companies implement ISSB standards. By integrating modules for Corporate and Product Carbon Footprint (CCF and PCF), CSRD, EU Taxonomy, and CBAM compliance, companies can efficiently create sustainability reports that are consistent with international standards.
