ISO 14067
ISO 14067 is an international standard that sets the requirements for calculating and reporting the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). It is based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and aims to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions of products throughout their entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
ISO 14067 was developed to provide companies with a clear framework for calculating and communicating the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). This standard is part of the ISO 14000 family, which focuses on environmental management and sustainable practices. At its core is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which considers all stages of a product’s life—from raw material extraction through production and use to disposal. Greenhouse gas emissions are measured in CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e), promoting transparency and credibility in environmental reporting while helping companies systematically identify and reduce emissions.
ISO 14067 encourages companies to make data-driven decisions and identify improvement opportunities across the product lifecycle, which can also enhance operational efficiency and cost savings. For industrial companies operating under stringent regulatory frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) or the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14067 provides an essential foundation. It enables these companies to accurately measure their Scope 3 emissions, which often constitute the largest portion of their CO₂ footprint. By adhering to this standard, they can meet their emission reporting obligations and position themselves as sustainability leaders.
Companies that apply ISO 14067 can better communicate their sustainability efforts to stakeholders and investors, securing a competitive edge, particularly in sectors where sustainability is increasingly prioritized.
