SAQ.5
SAQ 5.0 is a standardized sustainability questionnaire developed by the automotive industry to evaluate suppliers’ ESG performance (environmental, social, governance) worldwide. It serves as a unified tool for assessing sustainability practices across the supply chain.
SAQ 5.0 was developed by the “Drive Sustainability” initiative in collaboration with leading automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Toyota. The questionnaire covers seven key areas:
- Corporate Governance: Assessment of the company’s sustainability strategy and responsibilities
- Human Rights & Working Conditions: Review of policies and measures to protect workers’ rights
- Health & Safety: Evaluation of occupational safety measures and standards
- Business Ethics: Assessment of anti-corruption and ethical business conduct policies
- Environment: Analysis of environmental management systems and emission reduction efforts
- Responsible Supply Chains: Review of sustainability requirements for suppliers
- Responsible Raw Material Sourcing: Examination of the origin and sustainability of raw materials used
The assessment process is conducted via the “Supplier Assurance” platform and includes:
- Response Phase: Suppliers complete the questionnaire and upload relevant evidence
- Validation Phase: Submitted information is reviewed by independent experts
- Result Phase: Suppliers receive a rating and recommendations for improving their sustainability performance
SAQ 5.0 is a requirement for collaboration with many OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and is regularly updated to reflect current sustainability standards.
For manufacturing companies, especially in the automotive supply industry, SAQ 5.0 is a key tool for assessing and improving sustainability performance. A good rating can enhance competitiveness, open new market opportunities, and support compliance with regulations such as the CSRD.
